I grew up on the edge of Trafford Park, one of the country’s
biggest industrial sites, in the
1950s and for me as for many children, nature was replaced
by bricks, concrete, steel, steam and smoke.
For
years I thought that flowers only existed as patterns
on material so my current work makes up for those lost
years of flowers and all things natural. Through painted
backgrounds and appliquéd shapes I aim to capture
the exuberance and chaos of mixed garden borders.
